Day 5 @ Rankin and London busses. 2nd November.

Hopped on the bus today instead of the DLR to get to the Studio, gave me a completely different perspective of east London to the one which I get from the DLR... might hop on/off the bus tomorrow and get some photos on the street as there were some interesting looking places!

Today was very busy in the Studio, Rankin had two shoots planned... both were female fashion-style shoots, one was in the morning/early afternoon and the other was early-evening. Both shoots required set building, so out came the paint tins (again!), and I became splattered in paint during and in between both shoots!
The shoots were very different despite the similarity in genre (female fashion), it was interesting to see how Rankin approached each of the shoots in a very different way.. the way he approached the shoot was reflected in the style of the photographs he took.

The two shoots made the studio an environment which was full of hustle and bustle, the team was really bought together throughout the day and every single member of staff had something to do! The vibe of the day was great!

(the simplest of lighting setups can be used to create amazing photos)

A quick little night photo of a London bus shelter (this photo made me miss my train!! I do like it though, so it's worth it!)

View from a Bus. 15th September.

I rode on the bus today, it is quite a rare thing for me to do now I drive.. but it gave me time to think about a little test shoot I did last year. The test shoot was for a possible project where I would document city life from my view on the bus... for various reasons I didn't carry it on and left the idea to gather dust. Recently I saw a couple of projects similar to this featuring London life in an exhibition, that experience and my time on the bus today made me think about starting this project... I need something to get stuck into, maybe this is the thing I am looking for!

People. 1st September.

So, I'm in wales this week.. currently at a conference for Home Educators (as some of you may know I was home educated up until the age of 16). I've not yet had any opportunity to shoot any landscapes yet (got plenty of time to do that during the week), but I have been photographing people over the past couple of days. I've uploaded a couple of the portraits I've taken over the past two days. I also apologise in advance for the lack of blog posts over the week as my internet connection and mobile signal is very limited.

More photos of people, landscapes and general welsh things will follow!

Puzzle Pile. 19th August.

I used to love working out jigsaw puzzles, I always used the same method: build the edges, then tackle the middle. Jigsaws are good fun, I hope they never get "too old" or go out of fashion!

Goodbye Harlaxton. 8th August.

So today was my last day at the beautiful place which was Harlaxton Manor. I captured a couple of photos of the place before I had to head home.. it is such a beautiful building, inside and out! I thoroughly look forward to visiting it again sometime in the future.

Hills and Holes. 22nd July.

Today was one of those beautifully sunny days where it would be a crime to not go outside to enjoy the weather. My boyfriend and I ventured out to this great little nature reserve called "hills and holes", it's basically a really big field with massive bumps!

After walking round the reserve I decided that it would be a perfect place to shoot for my project on the British culture as it seems to be a haven for bird watchers and dog walkers. I also spied a very quaint looking bowling match nearby which would also make a fantastic photo.. so I shall definitely have do drive back to Barnack sometime over the summer.

A Feather, People Watching on the Train, and week 4 of Graduate Academy Commences. 15th July.

This little feather was in my garden today.. like a typical Instagrammer I decided that it would make a sweet little subject for a pointless photograph!

I headed back to London this evening for my final week with the D&AD Graduate Academy! The last three weeks have been really amazing, and I know that this final week will also be great, so I am looking forward to getting stuck in with it.

I'm a bit of a people watcher, so getting the train is great... my carriage consisted of the half sleeping man with headphones, the newspaper reader, the couple who are deeply in love, two giggling teenage girls.. and the lady secretly reading 50 shades of grey on her Kindle... I guess I was the annoying person with the camera!

Movement of the Flag. 23rd June.

I was experimenting with my iPhone's camera and it's flash, so I just picked up a flag near to me and incorporated movement into the experiment to see what happened.

In and Out the Train Station. 20th June.

Train Stations are interesting, I've spent my fair share of time sitting around in them waiting for trains and I'm about to spend a lot more time over the next month as I am in London with the D&AD graduate academy. The thing which I enjoy is watching the interactions between people... you have the typical lovers who enjoy making out for a good five minutes before they say goodbye, you have the business man briskly shaking hands of their "connections" as they get off their train, you have the commuters running so that they don't miss the train, you have parents saying bye to their kids telling them to "stay safe"... there are so many things happening in one small space. It's pretty amazing.

I also received a new batch of Business Cards today, I decided to order from MOO as I have heard nothing but good stories about them. I absolutely love them, you can have different backs for each card, the printing is high quality and they are finished off with a lovely matte sheen. If you're looking at getting new business cards I thoroughly recommend MOO cards. You can even get a 10% discount with this friend referral voucher link: http://www.moo.com/share/r8khn6

The Swan Parade. 15th May.

I was walking by the riverside today and it seemed to be filled with swans, geese and ducks.. and as I walked they all seemed to follow me, no doubt they were hoping to receive a few crumbs which would be thrown their way! I captured the moment with the camera which I carry everywhere... my iPhone camera, it may not produce top quality photos, but it is still a brilliant camera as it's so portable and multi functional.

This week has signified the end of a very busy week of exhibition preparation, yesterday I was printing, today I've been cutting mounts so the prints are ready to frame.. add on all the other small jobs such as re-scanning negatives and printing artist statements/portraits and the week became pretty full. Would love you to come to the Exhibition... it is at UCP, Peterborough on the 26th of June at 7pm (preview evening) and it runs during the daytime until the 29th.

Also, well done to England for winning in the football against Sweeden.. 3-2, pretty good score! I'm no obvious football fan, but secretly I quite enjoy watching and playing it sometimes (mainly when England play).

Wall of Mirrors. 14th June.

I took this photo today whilst in John Lewis, there was a whole section of mirrors, it looked pretty amazing as the whole area was full of reflections and beautiful metal sculpting. This photo reminded me of a song I always used to listen to when I was a teenager....

The Rain in Stamford. 11th June.

I was in the lovely town of Stamford today as I was getting a few rolls of film developed at the photo-lab there. It's a very quaint place with loads of small weaving cobbled alleyways and unique cafes and bakers. Sadly today it was very wet and I hid in a coffee shop for most of the time I was there, but when I ventured out this scene greeted me. The people of Stamford still filled the streets despite the weather, many people raised umbrellas to shield themselves and just got on with their lives. That's one of the many things I love about Britain, we don't let the weather bog us down, we embrace it and just carry on with life.

Walking Wave. 30th May.

So I spent a little bit of time in Peterborough today, and whilst sitting on a bench sipping a Frappuchino I decided to take a few snaps of the people who were walking by me. Most of the photographs were normal with people walking casually from left to right, or vice versa, but this one lady did something different, she must of been meeting a friend.. and for a few strides she walked across my frame with her hand held high, so snap, the photograph was made.

Also, I have been able to enter a competition with Photo Democracy on facebook, if you want to support me then click on this link and "like" the photograph to vote for my picture: https://www.facebook.com/events/118958861573711/permalink/136323913170539/?notif_t=like

Union Flags on the Square. 25th May.

It's that time of 2012, all across Britain villages, towns and cities are all gearing to celebrate one big event... the Queen's Jubilee! As I was walking around my town today I saw the square garbed with union flags and a couple of fairground attractions! I might go down there tomorrow with the Mamyia when everything is in full swing, it will be great so capture how towns such as mine embrace "Britishness" by celebrating events such as the Jubilee!

Flowers for Gran. 23rd May.

My Gran loved all things nature-related, she spent much time in her garden looking after the flowers and watching the birds that eat from the bird feeders, today was her funeral and I had the privilege of giving her these flowers in her respects along with my siblings, I am very sure that she would have loved them and is no doubt admiring their beauty whilst up in heaven. Thank you Gran for being amazing.
