I am not going to lie, since getting an iPhone I have become a bit of an instagram addict, it's ability to instantly imitate classic films and cameras is quite amazing... but from using this app so much I have started to miss the traditional photographic techniques which inspires instagram. I have a packet of expired 120 film sitting on my shelf and a holga right next to it, I think that it is a bit of a hint for me to find an excuse to produce some real-life "instagram effect" photos. Pretty excited about this!

Wind turbines on the riverside. 28th March.
I have been taking photos today, but sadly I do not have anything to show you as I've been shooting on film... so I've uploaded an iPhone snapshot of a river which I drive past all the time (I didn't photograph this whilst driving though). I have been in the studio with a few other photographers and we were shooting a number of portraits with a few different cameras; we first shot with the Holga, a camera which I have a love hate relationship with depending on the quality of the Negatives, I then used the Bronica, a camera which I love using (although I prefer a Mamyia and it's 6x7 negative format), and then I did a shot on the 5x4 pinhole camera. Developing these tomorrow and hopefully scanning them too, so keep tuned to see the results!

Through a door. 7th March.
I saw this door today, it was quite interesting as the building it belonged to was an old mobile office/classroom. The door of it was open and it felt like through the door there were many interesting things to explore and discover.
I am also starting to love Instagram, it's a great app, although it has made me want to experiment with my Holga and film more so that I can actually produce these styles and techniques by hand!

Holga. 6th January.
This is a camera which I am constantly falling in and out of love with. It can produce the most amazing photographs, but it can also produce the worst exposed and the most out of focus photographs. I am currently experimenting with the Holga and long exposures, I am yet to develop any film from this experiment, but when I have I know it will either be incredibly successful or look terrible. It is an exciting camera to own and it challenges you to look through the technical abilities of cameras but to just use your own creativity to invent a photograph.

Three Brick Chimneys. 2nd January.
I spent this morning walking around a large abandoned quarry (now a nature reserve) in whittlesey. This was because I am currently working on a project which shows how people use green spaces such as nature reserves (inspired by Andy Sewell's "The Heath"). This quarry is right next to a brick yard where these three chimneys were, I thought it would be a great opportunity too take a Michael Kenna style photograph, so I took this photograph.
I love the work of Michael Kenna, he is one of my biggest influences so look him up!
