Peterborough Horse Fair. 2nd January 2013.

Every year around New Year a horse fair is held in the city of Peterborough. This is the first year I have visited this event... I found it was a very interesting environment to take photograph. I was one of a handful of women there; but there were men and boys of all ages looking at the horses, catching up with each other, and enjoying the event. A great little event to photograph with so many things happening.

A photo-tour of Southbank and Westminster. 3rd November.

I have the weekend off, so I have been able to do my own thing on this rather beautiful but chilly day! Onto the DLR I hopped to get myself into central London to do some shooting. The problem with taking photos in London is that there are so many things to take photos of I need to plan what I am actually going to focus on photographing. 

My focus for today was South Bank skate park; a skate park which has interested me over the years, it has been something I've always wanted to delve into... so today and last wednesday were perfect times for me to delve away!

Daniel was just mending his bike when I asked him for his portrait, he was doing some pretty sick moves before I took this photo though ('scuse the street lingo!).

After spending a bit of time meeting great people and taking photos at the skate park I headed down the embankment; I was astonished to find a number of people clutching Ice Creams, it was such a cold day.. far too cold for Ice Cream!

Jubilee Gardens (a green space next to the London Eye) has had a make-over and I have never really had the chance to walk through it, so I had a nosey and then perched upon a small hill and watched the Street Performers from afar. I was quite disappointed with two performers who's act was the Cha Cha slide and the dance to Gangham Style, not overly original... it was great to see people joining in though!

Westminster Bridge was crammed, but amongst all the hustle and bustle I found this man pushing a cart full of souvenirs he had been selling.

Thought I'd check out Parliment Square to see if there were any protests going on, and indeed there was one small protest about wanting Democracy in Lybia. The passion and enthusiasm of the people protesting and shouting the chants was quite inspiring.

After my little photo-journey around Southbank/Westminster I headed to Kings Cross to meet Sarah Page, a friend of mine who is a Photographer/Filmmaker, she was in London for the weekend filming part of a documentary she was making. It was great to meet up with her and catch up with all she's been doing and I was able to share with her a little about what I've been doing. 

London can be such a lonely place despite the fact it is full of people, so it has been nice to see a familiar face!

The Flower People and Lumen Magazine. 12th September.

I am slowly stepping into the world of freelance photography now that I have finished my studies! I was out and about with a regional newspaper company today and ended up taking a few photographs of this trio today who were responsible for a prize-winning flower display... They were quite enjoyable to meet and I know that there are plenty of people out there who I will enjoy meeting in the future, so I'm quite excited to see how my freelance career develops!

The Natural Ice Rink. 12th February.

Most winters, for a few days, natural ice rinks appear throughout the fens. Today I decided to photograph one of these Ice Rinks in the fenland town of Whittlesey. People turn up, speed skate, play ice hockey, skate for fun, drag sledges on the ice... the whole community of the town meets together on the ice of this flooded field. 

Don McCullin Shaped by War exhibition and London underground portraits. 9th February.

I went to London today with a group of photographers, we went to see the Don McCullin and Ori Gersht exhibitions. I took a few tube-based portraits of my colleagues as an idea for a future piece of work, I find the symmetry of underground station walkways interesting. 

The Don McCullin exhibition was amazing, it's currently at the Imperial War Museum and I highly recommend it. I found myself  connect to the subjects in the photographs when I looking at the exhibition, McCullin's work perfectly captures the emotions and moments which a war environment contains. The prints in the exhibition were all hand printed, the dodging and burning of each photograph carefully done to produce the perfect print. The exhibition finished with his latest work, some of which are his landscapes, I personally see his landscape work as the peace he is finding after being so involved in war environments, his landscapes still contain hints of conflict and drama, displayed through how he captures and prints them. I find McCullin's work inspiring and insightful, he is a photographer who has left a great legacy for photographers like my to look up to.

When most shops close there are a group of shops that open, takeaways. They represent the night time in Britain. Their customer range is wide, from families who want an easy dinner, to teenagers after their nights out. Takeaways make the UK what it is today.

Farewell Wellfare. 30th November.

I was in Cambridge today, originally I was going to organise a shoot for my home education documentary, but this didn't work out. So I decided to shoot a little bit of the Unison Public Workers Pension Strike, I shot a few frames digitally and a few more with the Bronica (which are yet to be developed), and only after shooting did I realise that I had taken this rather clever photograph! I was reviewing the photographs and I saw that by chance I had captured these two police officers so it looked like they were carrying the coffin, at the time I was rather miffed because I thought that the police officers had got in the way of the shot.

On the way to St.Pauls. 1st November.

So once again I was in the big city of London! The main reason for this trip was to take some architectural photographs for a brief... but alongside the brief I did a little bit of personal work (including today's photograph) and worked some more on the Occupy London Stock Exchange protest. 

I took today's photograph when walking from the Tait Modern (where there are currently a couple of great photography exhibitions!) to Lloyds, it was quite busy and I think that helped bring life to a much photographed scene!

The architecture photograph went well, and I shall upload the photographs to my online portfolio when they are done, I also shot the exterior of the Lloyds building today using a 5x4 large format view camera, excellent piece of photographic equipment, got some interesting looks when I was using it! 

Photographs shall be coming in the future, have a busy week coming up.. but I will keep you updated!

Photojournalism: Occupy The London Stock Exchange.

I visited the Anti-Capitalism protest (also known as Occupy London Stock Exchange/OccupyLSX) outside St.Pauls in London on the 28th of October. My main aim was to document what was going on whilst staying impartial to the views of the protesters and their opposition. I found the protest as a very peaceful site with a really big feel of community, which hopefully comes through in the series of photographs.

The Anti-Capitalist Rhino. 28th October.

As I said yesterday, I went to London today to follow up a brief and a couple of projects. One of my projects was to document a little bit of the Anti-Capitalism protest outside St.Pauls Cathedral. There is a line of metal barriers that have been put up by St.Pauls for the protesters to put messages on and this little message stood out to me, mainly because of it's creativity! I will work on the photographs in the near future and when they're up I will give you all a link to view them!
