House Number. 30th March.

House numbers... they're such simple things, yet they are all presented in different ways. They're the first thing visitors see when they come to your house. Most people don't think about them, but if first impressions are so important, then why not put some thought into your house number?

Pep-talks from National Geographic photographers....

I was recently reading an article by National Geographic photographer Michael "Nick" Nichols, he was saying about how he's heard tonnes of photographers say about how they're saving up to photograph projects abroad... he then went on to say that the real photographers are the ones who go out into their back yard and photograph a super-accessible project to it's death. This motivated me to think about all the opportunities to take great photos that I'm missing... So I'm going to take up Michael's advice and head out into my town and create a project to photograph to it's death.

Wimpole Hall. 24th March.

I went to the National Trust property Wimpole Hall today... I was a typical tourist snapping the scenery and the house...

Grantham Station & Train Filming. 23rd March.

I spent this afternoon on trains going to and from Grantham and Peterborough, as I was working on a video shoot for Kingsgate's Easter services... it was an interesting shoot as you didn't know if there would be the right seats available on the train you're taking, the camera had to be handheld for H&S reasons, and we had to get all the footage in 2x20min journeys... but, it all worked out and I am looking forward to seeing the finished video piece.

If you're free next weekend and in Peterborough/Cambridge you can come to one of the services and check it out yourself: Peterborough - Cambridge

Caffenol Experiments.

So, I've been experimenting with Caffenol, an alternative home-made way to develop black & white film. It's a developer made out of cheap instant coffee, vitamin C, & washing soda... it stinks, but has rather lovely results! I'm going to be using this process in a small project I'm about to start and work on over the next month, I'd love to tell you about it, but I have to keep it secret until it's finished... so be patient!

If you're interested in Caffenol, this is a great blog with some useful recipes: http://caffenol.blogspot.co.uk/2010/08/recipes.html

Is Multiculturalism Dead? Art Exhibition.

Last Thursday was the opening night of the InterAct group art exhibition "Is Multiculturalism Dead?" I had a few of my photos exhibited in this show. It was great talking about my work with other people, as some people were inspired by it to go out and be bolder in approaching people and photographing them! I love having the opportunity and pleasure to see other people inspired through my work, it's probably one of the biggest compliments an artist can have.

There were also some other great exhibits, 2 of my favourites were these pieces of art:

The venue for the exhibition was also inspiring, it wasn't a cliche white-filled gallery, but it was in a church building, which in itself was filled with some amazing pieces of art:
(St.Johns - Bethnal Green)

The exhibition closes on Wednesday, so have a look if you haven't already, there's a great variety of work.
